A Taste of Bedcoders

BedCamp ยท Day 3

This is what a Bedcoders lesson feels like.

Real content. No watered-down preview.

Today you get a full lesson from Bedcoders Module 1. Not a teaser. Not a summary. The actual lesson.

A note before you start: Bedcoders is our sister site at bedcoders.com, not a Spooniversity course. It lives at its own home and ships with its own purchase. We're including this lesson in BedCamp because what it teaches matters even if you never write code professionally.

If this clicks โ€” head to bedcoders.com when Day 3 ends.

The web is built on three things

HTML is the structure. The bones. It says what's on the page โ€” a heading, a paragraph, a button.

CSS is the appearance. The skin. It says what everything looks like โ€” size, colour, position.

JavaScript is the behaviour. The muscles. It says what things do โ€” what happens when you click the button.

Every website you've ever used is these three things working together.

You don't need to memorise this. You need to understand it. There's a difference.

Why this matters if you're chronically ill

The internet is the only workplace that doesn't require you to commute, be upright, perform wellness, or explain your body to an HR department.

Knowing how to build things on the web means your income can follow your capacity โ€” not the other way around.

That's not a small thing. For a lot of people in this school, it's the whole point.

Tool

Your first HTML

Open any text editor (Notes, TextEdit, Notepad). Type this: <h1>Hello, I built this.</h1> <p>This is a paragraph.</p> Save it as index.html and open it in a browser. That's a webpage. You just built one.

Not yet available as a file โ€” copy the structure above into whatever you already use. A downloadable version is coming.

Reflection

What would you build if you could build anything on the web?

Hold the answer in your head, write it in a journal, or post it in our Discord โ€” your call. Nothing is captured here.

Day 3 done.

  • ยทHTML, CSS, JavaScript โ€” structure, appearance, behaviour
  • ยทThe web doesn't care what your body is doing
  • ยทIf this felt like something โ€” Bedcoders is live at bedcoders.com.
