A Taste of Bedvocates

BedCamp · Day 4

This is what a Bedvocates lesson feels like.

How the system works. From the inside.

Today you get a real lesson from Bedvocates — the body literacy, healthcare navigation and self-advocacy pathway, and the largest one in the catalog.

Bedvocates is for two kinds of people: patients learning to be heard in a system that keeps missing them, and the carers and professionals who want to understand why that keeps happening. Same content. Two lenses.

The thing nobody tells you about healthcare systems

Most patient education teaches you to comply with systems.

Bedvocates teaches you to question them.

The founding insight: the people who've been most harmed by broken healthcare systems — patients, carers, chronically ill workers — are the ones with the clearest picture of what's broken. That knowledge is not a liability. It's the qualification.

The patient who fought a broken system for ten years understands it better than the consultant who studied it for two.

The Mission, Margin, and Morals matrix

Most difficult decisions in healthcare management come down to three forces pulling in different directions:

Mission — your purpose: the best possible care for patients.

Margin — financial reality: no margin, no mission.

Morals — what you can actually live with.

The hard decisions are when all three point somewhere different. The tool is to name the tension clearly — not to resolve it, but to make it visible so you can make a conscious choice.

Reflection

Think of a time you saw a healthcare system prioritise margin over mission, or mission over margin. What was the cost?

Hold the answer in your head, write it in a journal, or post it in our Discord — your call. Nothing is captured here.

Day 4 done.

  • ·Lived experience inside a broken system is a qualification
